From Santa Tags

I miss the little details I use to put into Christmas for my kids.  Now that they have gotten older I just wrap prettier…boring!!!  I was so good at wrapping the Santa gifts so they would look like the came from Santa’s Workshop.  I hid the wrapping paper, used special tags, tied big fun bows, totally over the top.  They had no clue!  Now I am enjoying it once again for my nieces and nephew.

Don’t forget the little things.  Here are a few Santa tag ideas for you to use.   I am sure some of you creative type can create you own version… Make Christmas extra special for you little ones.

Halloween Treat Bags

For most of us we are still swimming in our pools, blasting our air conditioners, and working on our tans.. but fall is coming.  It will be here before we know it.  We wanted to show you how easy it is to make simple treat bags out of a few dollar store items and a few things you probably already have at home in your stash.

We all know the Dollar Tree carries crepe paper… they will have Halloween colors out soon if it’s not already out.  Brown lunch bags, you might have them at home if not get them at the dollar store.  Next just some scrap Halloween themed scrapbook paper and punches.

Martha Stewart has great edge punches and their not just for borders.  You can use them for the details on rosettes, or on the top of the treat  bags as well.

Lay the brown paper bag flat (don’t open it) and punch the top of it with the border punch. You do not have to keep the bag tall,  you can cut the bag down and use Martha Stewart’s haunted fence punch then it would look like a graveyard!  Use this same technique with the snowflake punch in winter, the leaves punch in fall…. you get the picture.

Next take out all that old scrap Halloween themed paper (you could even use gift wrap) and just cut some circles for an added focal point on the rosettes.  All this cuteness for a couple of dollars at the Dollar Tree.  No need to buy fancy gift bags.  It can get expensive when you have to make 20+ treat bags for your child’s classroom.  You can still make it cute without spending $20 on bags.

Have fun creating treat bags this season!

Rainbow Loom

I finally caved in and purchased a Rainbow Loom kit for my girls just this past Friday.  I thought we have a long holiday weekend and after our football game duties on Saturday it would be a great way to relax and have the girls do something crafty while I try to catch up on some of my own projects.    I’ve received many e-mails about this new craft kit and have seen it at my local Michael’s store.  When I first came across the kit I thought  “What’s the big deal about this kit?”   The employees themselves didn’t really know too much about it either but that doesn’t surprise me since they didn’t even know about Project Life!  Well two weeks later from its release and voila… we now own two Rainbow Loom kits because we quickly realized that the loom board is something that was hard to share.  The girls also needed more rubber bands to produce more bracelets.  My girls Kylie (11) and Kayla (9) have been busy making bracelet after bracelet and watching endless You Tube videos on the Rainbow loom.  They have already turned many of their friends onto this kit. I personally like it better than that those crazy Silly bands!  This crafty kit provides endless hours of entertainment for my girls! They literally CANNOT put it down!  Catch my girls in action!

Party Favors *DIY Goody Bags* Superhero Birthday Party*

Correct me if I am wrong no matter how old you are, but the best part of a birthday party is the cake and the party favors.  Am I right or am I right?

First off let’s talk cake.  Personally I look for two WOW factors in the cake.  1. Does it look spectacular?  2. Does it taste wonderful?  If the cake has both of these I am a happy camper.  My niece had a birthday party and requested like every other little girl, a superhero party.  Finally a birthday theme I can really get into!  I have long list of go-to bakers but for this cake I commissioned my old high school friend Melissa.  I knew she would take our crazy suggestions and run wild with it!  Boy did she run with it.  Amazing.

As the children arrived to the party they would stop and stare at the cake.  They didn’t know if it was a toy or food!  She was able to incorporate three of my nieces favorite superheros, Batman, Spiderman, and Superman.   Each scrumptous layer was a different flavor.  The cupcakes are not just for decorations they are perfect for little hands… no mess cupcakes are the way to go!

Now for the goody bags/party favors.  I like to give something that will last a little bit longer than the car ride home.  But what do you give besides candy?  Sure there are the normal bubbles, coloring books & crayons (if you are thinking about this stock up on them now while the Back to School clearances are going on) glow in the dark bracelets, but this was a superhero party… it had to be amazing.  Then I had an idea…they need superhero capes.  BINGO!  I am brilliant (not really cause I thought their would only be a handful of kids there).  Apparently my niece was a super popular 3-year-old and had a gazillion kids there.

bcuzuluvme blog capes

Don’t think I spent a gazillion dollars on these.  These are afforable to make.  Yes I know my way around the garment district, but this can be done with a 40% coupon at Joanns for cheap.  For the white circle in the center I visited my local die cut center for our school district and cut out a bunch of  “planets”.  Luckily they had lightning bolts too (I know these were Ellison brand dies but I am sure Accucut carries them as well).  If you are doing mass quantities like I did you are going to wish you had a die cut center to cut these out at.  Cutting a million pieces of felt is going to start to killing your hand.  I. Am. Serious.  The diecut machines are great cause they cut through material like butta… no joke.  You will need without a doubt a good pair of scissors for this project.

While at the die cut center I stumbled upon these sweet little masks.

super hero cuffs bcuzuluvme blog

I added some elastic to the back and a little stitching around the rim of the mask and voila done!  But I couldn’t stop there.  Nope.

They needed cuffs, super cute cuffs.

Now I was basically on my own for a pattern.  I knew the die cut center was not going to have anything to help me out.  I had a coffee cozy on my cup from my morning Starbucks run and with that came a genius idea.  I used the cardboard as a template and cut away.  The stitching you see on everything serves no purpose other than it looks good.  Both the cape and the cuffs have a little bit of velcro sewn in to help it stay in place.

Party favors…. complete success!  They enjoyed these party favors far better than a bag of candy.  Think out of the box for your next party.  You will be surprised with what you come up with.

Are you ready for some FOOTBALL?? Touchdown Bucket DIY

keep calm

The only reason everybody is ok with letting summer come to an end is because we know that means football season will be here soon.  For weeks now little boys and girls have been hitting the field, and whether you are playing tackle or flag, football is football.   The only downside of some of these organized sports for children is the high cost of membership to play.  They must put out tons of money before they even step one foot on the field, then after that they must fundraise until they squeeze every cent out of grandma & grandpa!  Pj has created a Touchdown Bucket for her team.  Each time a player has a great play or scores a touchdown the cheerleaders parade up and down the sideline shaking this bucket and the parents are more than excited to drop some money in the bucket.   Doesn’t have to be dollar bills,  change adds up to!

touchdown bucket bcuzuluvme blog

Do you want to make one too?  This can be applied to any sport… baseball, soccer, basketball.

The DYI Downlow

She started will a clear pail, you can find ones similar to this at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or tin ones at Home Depot.  Next use a 12×12 sport themed scrapbook paper and wrap it around the pail (cut down to desirable size).  Now you are ready to play with the front… put your team name, or decorate with sport themed embellishments.  To finish it all off add some ribbon and tulle to the handle, don’t forget to cut a slot on the top lid so they can slide the money easily through.

touchdownbucket Collage

I’ve seen it in action and it is awesome!  After the first touchdown was scored 5 adorable little cheerleaders walked up the sideline with the bucket and the crowd was eagerly awaiting it to reach them.  Moms, dads, aunts, uncle, little sisters were all waving money around in excitement!  Lots of quarters, nickels and dollar bills were dropped in the bucket that day and not just for touchdowns but for great tackles too!  At the end of the season this mighty Pop Warner team hopes to put on an awesome team party with lots of goodies from this magical little bucket.

Back to School * Lunch Bags * Lunch Boxes *

Back to School is here whether we like it or not.  I have always preferred my kids to take lunch rather than to buy.  It’s just convenance… I know what they are eating, how much they are eating, and what they won’t eat.  Now that they are older not much has changed… except it must be the perfect lunch bag.  Here are a few for all ages:

Crafty Bands for Scrapbooking * Epiphany Crafts *DIY Project Life Embellishments*

Sometimes you have to take a look around your house at your kids stuff and figure out how to use it for scrapbooking.

Crafty Bands bcuzuluvme blog

I am a scrapbooker turned Project Lifer so I love to save all kinds of dodads that I can try to make into something later.  I love to save certain clothing tags, business cards, brochures, maps, just about anything with a cool design on it.   Normally I would use one of my Epiphany Craft tools to make a cool embellishent and place on one of my Project Life cards.  Lately I have been eyeing one of my daughters tool from them its a Crafty Bands tool.  It is made by the same wonderful company Epiphany Crafts, but is targeted for children to make these cool snap on bracelets.  It is the same exact tool I use for scrapbooking except it is a different size circle than what Epiphany makes.

^^^Now this is how you use it if you want to make a bracelet.^^^

This is what I used it for…

See what I mean about the perfect size for Project Life scrapbooking?  Genius!  Everyone is happy in my house!  My daughter still gets to use it… Mom gets to use it, it’s a win win for me!

Duct Tape Composition Books * DIY Notebooks * One Direction *

This simple DIY on how to make custom notebooks will make the new school year painlessly inexpensive.  Instead of buying ridiculously overpriced notebooks, and folders consider this simple alternative.  Duct Tape covered supplies.

ducttape books bcuzuluvme blog

Buy the least expensive school supplies and some decorative duct tape.  Wrap the front cover and the back cover, leaving the spine exposed.

bcuzuluvme composition book

besides this DIY being something anyone could do it would also be awesome at a birthday party, craft time, girl scouts meeting.  Just about anytime…anywhere!  Duct tape is sold everywhere it s not hard to find.  They also have a ton of different colors and prints (not just for girls either!! )  My advice to you go pick out a few styles and get to work!  At least you will have custom-made folders and notebooks that won’t look like everybody else’s school stuff.
